The area allows studies on fundamental modelling of materials, especially the interface between material modelling and assessment of new material capabilities. It also includes design and manufacturing of structures based on these materials. Areas could be both experimental and computational. The area encompasses materials with high relevance for aeronautics, such as composites and high-temperature materials (superalloys etc.), but also new radical materials such as nano-materials in general and graphene.
